A Huge Rally in Manipur Demands the NRC

Thousands of students and women rallied in Imphal in support of Manipur’s adoption of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The protest began in Khwairamband Keithel and moved towards the office of the chief minister. Because of the influx of undocumented migrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar who are settling in Manipur’s major cities like Imphal, many individuals and the student movement want to implement the NRC.

6 The fundamental reason that student bodies are protesting is that they want the NRC to be enforced; otherwise, the protests won’t end. AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK, and AIM are six student organisations. In Imphal’s Khwairamband Keithel, the city’s commercial hub, they staged protests.

With signs and banners, the 20 May 2023 Rally moved from Khwairamband Keithel to the Chief Minister’s house along Bir Tikendrajit Riad. The at the moment state of affairs in Manipur is extremely perilous.

A massive police force, however, completely succeeds in stopping the Western Kangla Gate.

The demonstrators fought with the police for a while before going back to Khwairambandh Keithel to hold a public gathering.

 Some student wing leaders there explained to the populace how to halt these immigrants and how the government can do it.

“How can women stop herself when they show students to protest for protecting Manipure’s future,” the leaders of the Khwairamband Keithel vendor reportedly remarked to the media.

People in Manipur constantly support students. Government must make the decision to start using NRC right away. 

When speaking to the media, Mr. Open, the coordinator and a member of the student body, stated that they would continue to hold various types of protest up until the state administration implemented the NRC.

All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM), Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF), Democratic Students as its Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), Students’ Union of Kangicipak (SUK), and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), representatives of 7 student wings from Manipur, staged a rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and sent a memo to Union Home Minister
