Tragic Death of 23-Year-Old Student Jaahnavi Kandula in Seattle Sparks Outrage
In a devastating incident that occurred on January 25, a 23-year-old student named Jaahnavi Kandula, hailing from Adoni, lost her life in the United States in a collision involving a Seattle Police car. Shocking video footage of the accident, accompanied by insensitive remarks from a senior police officer, has circulated widely on social media.
Jaahnavi Kandula had embarked on her educational journey in Seattle in 2021, pursuing a Master’s degree in Information Systems at Northeastern University’s Seattle campus, with graduation expected by December of the current year.
Currently, the King County prosecuting attorney’s office is undertaking a comprehensive criminal review of the incident to determine if any criminal charges are warranted. This review was prompted by the release of body camera footage that captured Daniel Auderer, the vice president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, engaged in a phone conversation shortly after the tragic accident unfolded.
Auderer had arrived at the scene of the accident, where Officer Kevin Dave, responding urgently to another emergency call, collided with and fatally injured Jaahnavi.
The recorded conversation shocked many, as Auderer’s comments appeared profoundly insensitive. He was heard suggesting that Jaahnavi’s life held “limited value” and even proposed that the city should simply “write a cheque” as compensation.

Jaahnavi’s mother, Kandula Vijayalakshmi, who resides in MIG Colony in Adoni, has chosen not to comment on the matter but has conveyed that the family does not anticipate receiving any compensation from the US government.
