PM NARENDRA MODI VISIT TO USA – ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States of America on Tuesday, June 20th, at the request of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. PM Modi will be in the United States till June 24.
As India takes center stage as the world’s most populous country, one of the fastest expanding economies, and a digital and innovation powerhouse, the Biden Administration intends to woo the country as a critical ally to offset China’s rising influence in the Indo-Pacific region.
According to Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, “the visit will strengthen our two nations’ shared commitment to a free, open, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific, as well as our bilateral relations” as well as our joint resolve to further develop our technological partnership, including in defense, renewable energy, and space.”
What is Modi’s primary purpose for his state visit?
The state visit will feature discussions focused on strengthening the US-India defense and industry cooperation, which is currently expanding. Recently, Washington and New Delhi have discussed jointly developing jet engines, long-range artillery, and military vehicles. In May, India became a member of Biden’s 14-country Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, which aspires to diminish China’s economic dominance via manufacturing but does not include a formal trade pact. Now, American corporation General Electric hopes to co-produce military planes in the nation, while the United States has expanded investment in an Indian semiconductor and chip manufacturing ecosystem to reduce reliance on Chinese manufacturers.
According to Reuters, India is getting closer to purchasing more than a dozen U.S.-made armed drones costing $2 to $3 billion to strengthen border monitoring and terrorist intelligence operations. The news comes after Sullivan and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval outlined an ambitious strategy for Indo-US partnership in high-tech fields such as semiconductors, next-generation telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and defense.
Deals with the United States will improve India’s hard power capabilities and convert the country into a hotspot of innovation. “They hope to attract more US dollars, more US companies, and more US entrepreneurs to make India a central part of their growth and expansion plans,” Vaishnav adds.
