Rahul Gandhi condemns violence in Sambhal, UP.
Violent clashes erupted in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday following a court-ordered survey of the Mughal-era Jama Masjid. The survey, part of an investigation into claims that a Hindu temple once stood at the site, led to a confrontation between protesters and security forces. Protesters opposing the survey clashed with police, pelting stones and setting vehicles on fire. Gunshots were fired, and two victims died from gunshot wounds, while a third death is under investigation. Several security personnel were also injured.
In response, authorities imposed strict prohibitory orders under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), suspending internet services and barring outsiders from entering Sambhal until November 30. Ten people were detained in connection with the violence, and an investigation was launched.
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition, condemned the violence and blamed the BJP government for mishandling the situation, claiming that its biased actions led to the deaths. He criticized the state government for not listening to all parties and called for national unity. Gandhi also urged the Supreme Court to intervene and ensure justice. The unrest is linked to a legal dispute over the mosque’s location, which is claimed to be built on the site of a Hindu temple.
