Heavy Rainfall Expected in Mumbai and Delhi:Weather Update

Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Mumbai and Delhi

Mumbai is bracing for heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds from May 21 to May 24. This weather pattern is attributed to a cyclonic circulation developing over the Arabian Sea, which is expected to intensify. Reports indicate that the rainfall will be more pronounced in the eastern and western suburbs of the city compared to the urban center itself.

Delhi Set for Relief from Excessive Heat

In a contrasting weather scenario, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts thunderstorms and rain for Delhi on Wednesday, May 21. After a sweltering temperature of 41.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, residents can look forward to some respite as the temperature is predicted to drop to around 28 degrees Celsius during the night and peak at approximately 39 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Impacts of Climate Trends in North India

Recent studies by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) highlight troubling trends in North India, including rising night temperatures and increased humidity levels, particularly in densely populated urban areas like Delhi. These conditions contribute to heightened heat exposure, classifying the region under a high to very high heat risk. With the anticipated thunderstorms and rain, the IMD suggests that conditions are likely to improve temporarily, possibly helping the urban populace feel some relief over the coming days.
