FIR Filed Against BJP IT Cell Chief and Arnab Goswami: A Look into the Allegations
An FIR has been filed against BJP IT cell chief and journalist Arnab Goswami over alleged misinformation and inflammatory content shared online, raising concerns about media responsibility and political influence.
Background of the Case
A police case has recently been registered against Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP IT Cell, and Arnab Goswami, the editor-in-chief of Republic TV, based on serious allegations. The complaint, lodged by Shrikant Swaroop B.N., head of the legal cell for the Indian Youth Congress, raises significant concerns regarding the dissemination of false information.
Details of the Allegations
An FIR has been filed against BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya and journalist Arnab Goswami for allegedly spreading false and inflammatory content with criminal intent. The complaint, lodged by activist Saket Swaroop, accuses the two of deliberately disseminating misinformation that poses a serious threat to India’s democratic institutions, public order, and national security.
In his statement, Swaroop described the actions of Malviya and Goswami as “an unprecedented attack on India’s democratic foundations.” He emphasized that their alleged manipulation of media platforms to circulate fabricated narratives demonstrates a calculated misuse of influence designed to incite unrest and manipulate public opinion. Swaroop urged law enforcement agencies to respond with the “harshest measures possible” to ensure accountability and deter similar acts in the future.
Swaroop also made formal appeals to several government bodies, including the Press Council of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to treat the matter as an emergency requiring immediate intervention. He stressed the broader geopolitical implications of the misinformation, citing tensions between India and Turkey, which have been exacerbated by Turkey’s perceived alignment with Pakistan.
According to the complaint, Malviya and Goswami falsely claimed that the Istanbul Congress Centre in Turkey was an official office of the Indian National Congress (INC).
The case has sparked debate about media ethics, political accountability, and the dangers of misinformation.
