Kavitha demands Telangana 2L cr debt white paper.

Kavitha strongly refuted Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s claim that the current borrowings by the Telangana government were being used to repay loans taken during the BRS regime. She termed the statement an “utter lie,” accusing the Congress-led government of misleading the public to cover up its own financial mismanagement. According to her, the present administration has not been transparent about the growing debt burden on the state, which she alleged now exceeds ₹2 lakh crore. Demanding a white paper on the state’s financial situation, Kavitha challenged the government to provide a detailed breakdown of how and where the borrowed funds are being utilized. She insisted that people deserve clarity and accountability, not political blame games and misinformation.

Kavitha Demands White Paper on Telangana’s ₹2 Lakh Crore Debt, Slams Revanth Govt

Hyderabad, June 26:
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Telangana government, demanding a white paper on the ₹2 lakh crore debt allegedly accumulated in just 18 months through bond auctions. Addressing a press conference, she raised serious questions over the utilisation of funds and accused the ruling party of large-scale corruption and financial mismanagement.

1. Demand for Transparency Over ₹2 Lakh Crore Debt

K Kavitha called on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to release a white paper detailing how the government has used the ₹2 lakh crore borrowed within a short span of 18 months. Taking a sarcastic dig, she congratulated him for reaching this “debt milestone” in record time. However, she questioned why, despite such borrowings, not a single major poll promise—like free scooters for young women, enhanced pensions, or student fee reimbursements—has been fulfilled.

2. Dismissal of CM’s Loan Repayment Claims

Kavitha rejected Revanth Reddy’s claims that the debt was being used to repay loans from the previous BRS regime, calling them an “utter lie.” She asserted that the BRS government had maintained a healthy fiscal record and even earned an ‘A’ rating from the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) for its responsible debt servicing. In contrast, she accused the present government of defaulting on dues and pushing Telangana towards financial instability.

3. REC’s Warning and Loan Default Accusation

The MLC cited a letter dated June 6 from REC warning that Telangana could be declared a non-performing asset (NPA) if it failed to clear dues amounting to ₹1,321 crore. According to Kavitha, the previous BRS government had planned to repay loans taken for the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme by 2035. However, the Congress government sought to extend the deadline to 2040—a request that was not only rejected by REC but also followed by accusations of three consecutive months of default.

4. Allegations of Corruption and Contractor Kickbacks

Kavitha alleged that instead of using loans for development or welfare, the Congress government was misusing public funds by issuing advance payments to favoured contractors, who in turn were allegedly funnelling commissions back to Congress leaders. She pointed to the Kodangal Lift Irrigation Scheme, where ₹1,200 crore was reportedly paid in advance to Raghava Constructions (owned by Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy) and MEIL, despite zero physical progress. Branding Revanth Reddy as the “Emperor of Corruption,” Kavitha announced that her organisation, Telangana Jagruthi, would soon publish a detailed book documenting corruption charges against him.

5. Godavari-Banakacherla Project Raises Alarm

Raising concerns over the Godavari-Banakacherla project, Kavitha said it was initiated without necessary clearances from the Apex Council, as mandated by the AP Reorganisation Act. She alleged the project was finalised following a meeting between Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. According to her, the project favours political interests in Andhra Pradesh at the cost of Telangana’s river water rights. She warned that awarding the project to MEIL would once again allow funds to be diverted through corrupt channels.

Conclusion

Kavitha’s explosive press briefing has added fuel to the ongoing political firestorm in Telangana. With growing concerns over the state’s debt, accusations of financial mismanagement, and allegations of collusion with corporate interests, pressure is mounting on the Congress government to respond with clarity and accountability.
