Tejashwi Yadav accuses NDA of stealing people’s rights

He voiced these remarks during his participation in the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, emphasizing people’s rights and democracy.

“Destroy democracy.” His remarks came while addressing the public during the ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra in Supaul, Bihar, where he was joined by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of the INDIA bloc.

We are meeting people directly, listening to their voices, and the kind of love, blessings, and support we are receiving is tremendous. This public affection is making NDA leaders nervous.”*

The atmosphere in Supaul was charged with energy as the Yatra made its way through the streets, with chants of unity and slogans demanding protection of democratic rights echoing in the background. According to Tejashwi, the message from the people is clear — Bihar will not tolerate any attempt to undermine its democratic heritage.

In one of his sharpest attacks on the BJP-led NDA, Tejashwi declared, *“We have said before, NDA means ‘No Denge Adhikar’. They want to take away people’s rights, their very existence, and impose their dictatorial agenda. But Bihar, which has always been the cradle of democracy and social justice, will never accept this.

His remarks were greeted with loud applause from the crowd, many of whom held placards demanding jobs, relief from inflation, and protection of constitutional values. For Tejashwi, the Voter Adhikar Yatra is not just a political event but a movement aimed at galvanizing ordinary citizens who feel alienated by the government’s policies.

Tejashwi also strongly criticized the recently introduced 130th Constitution Amendment Bill, terming it a “deliberate move for blackmail and selfish political interests.”

“There is no real discussion on the issues that matter most — poverty, unemployment, farmers, or the common man. Instead, the government is pushing a dictatorial agenda, hoping to distract people from its failures. From the very beginning, we have opposed this Bill because it is against the spirit of democracy,” he said.

He accused the NDA of sidelining key challenges faced by India’s youth, particularly joblessness and rising inequality. His words struck a chord with young supporters in the crowd, many of whom shouted slogans demanding employment and better opportunities.

INDIA Bloc’s Broader Push

The Voter Adhikar Yatra is part of the INDIA bloc’s broader effort to build grassroots support in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. Leaders from various opposition parties have been traveling together across districts, directly engaging with citizens on issues of democracy, livelihoods, and social justice.

Rahul Gandhi, who walked alongside Tejashwi in Supaul, also reiterated that the fight is not just political but ideological. According to him, the Yatra represents the people’s resistance to authoritarian tendencies and their demand for inclusive governance.

The Mahagathbandhan — consisting of the RJD, Congress, Left parties, and other allies — is banking on Bihar’s long tradition of democratic movements to mobilize voters. Tejashwi, being one of the youngest leaders of the bloc, is increasingly emerging as a central voice of opposition in the state.

People’s Response

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the Yatra is drawing significant crowds in every district it passes through. In Supaul, shopkeepers temporarily shut their businesses to join the gathering, while women, youth, and elderly citizens lined the streets, waving and cheering for the opposition leaders.

Local villagers who attended the rally expressed frustration over unemployment and rising prices of essential goods. Many said that they see the INDIA bloc as a counterforce to what they called the “anti-people” policies of the NDA.

Looking Ahead

With the Assembly elections still a year away, the INDIA bloc’s campaign in Bihar is expected to intensify in the coming months. Tejashwi has positioned himself as a young, dynamic leader who connects directly with people’s struggles, contrasting himself with what he describes as the NDA’s “detached and authoritarian style of governance.”

As the Yatra moves forward, it is clear that the opposition is betting on people’s anger over inflation, unemployment, and alleged attacks on constitutional values to translate into votes. For Tejashwi, this campaign is more than a political exercise — it is about defending the democratic soul of Bihar and ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard.

“The people of Bihar have always stood on the side of justice and democracy,” he concluded. “This time too, they will rise to protect their rights, and the response to the NDA will be historic.”
