PM Modi Likely to Visit Mizoram, Manipur on September 13
Aizawl: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Mizoram and Manipur on September 13, according to senior officials in Aizawl. If confirmed, this will mark a significant visit by the Prime Minister to two key Northeastern states—one to inaugurate a major infrastructure project, and the other to send a strong political and emotional signal in the backdrop of unrest.
As per information received, the Prime Minister will begin his tour in Mizoram, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the much-awaited Bairabi-Sairang railway line, a project that has been in the making for several years. This new railway link, stretching 51.38 kilometers, is being described as a crucial part of the Centre’s Act East Policy, which aims not only to connect the Northeast more closely with the rest of India but also to open up economic and cultural ties with neighboring Southeast Asian countries.
For the people of Mizoram, this project is more than just steel tracks and concrete platforms. It represents better access to markets, cheaper goods, quicker medical help, and a stronger sense of being linked to the national mainstream.
Local residents and business communities have expressed optimism that the line will transform connectivity and trade. “For decades, transportation has been a challenge for us. Everything had to come by road, and costs were very high. With this railway, we expect prices to drop and opportunities to grow,” said Lalbiakmawia, a trader in Aizawl.
Following his stop in Mizoram, the Prime Minister is expected to fly to Manipur. Officials in Mizoram confirmed receiving information about this plan, but authorities in Imphal have not yet confirmed the schedule. great turbulence that left deep scars on the region.
His presence there would be highly symbolic. Many in Manipur have been waiting for the Prime Minister to visit since the crisis erupted, as communities continue to grapple with the aftermath of the clashes. A visit from the country’s leader would likely be seen as an attempt to bring reassurance, healing, and a renewed push for peace.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway in Mizoram to ensure the visit goes smoothly. Mizoram Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena on Monday convened a high-level meeting with multiple departments and law enforcement agencies. The review focused on security, logistics, and public engagement during the Prime Minister’s stay.
The Northeast, often referred to as India’s “gateway to the East,” holds strategic importance, not just for national integration but also for India’s economic ambitions beyond its borders. The Act East Policy envisions a Northeast that is seamlessly connected by road, rail, and air, serving as a hub for trade and cultural exchanges with Myanmar, Bangladesh, and other ASEAN nations.
As the September 13 date approaches, anticipation is building across Mizoram and Manipur. For Manipur, Modi’s visit could represent hope for reconciliation and a step toward restoring peace in a land that has endured much pain in recent times.
If confirmed, the twin visit will not only mark an important day for these two Northeastern states but will also underline the Centre’s commitment to the region’s development, stability, and integration with the rest of the country.
