Army Soldier Killed in Gunfight in J\&K’s Udhampur, JeM Terrorists Trapped
An Army soldier was killed on Friday during a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, as security forces engaged three to four suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists who were reportedly trapped in the encounter.
The initial statement by the Army indicated that the encounter took place in the general area of Kishtwar. However, an updated statement clarified that the gunfight is ongoing near the Doda-Udhampur border, highlighting the dynamic and sensitive nature of the operation.
“Contact with terrorists. Update | Contact Site of the ongoing operation is Doda-Udhampur border. Operation continues,” a tweet from the White Knights Corps confirmed, signaling that security forces remain engaged in the area.
According to officials, the operation began after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of a JeM module in the region. As security forces moved in to neutralize the threat, an intense exchange of fire ensued, during which the soldier lost his life. The identities and number of terrorists involved are still being confirmed, but sources suggest three to four militants were cornered.
The Army and paramilitary forces have established a tight cordon around the encounter site to prevent the terrorists from escaping. Air and ground surveillance have been deployed to monitor the area, which is known for its challenging terrain and history of militant activity.
Residents in nearby villages have been advised to remain indoors and cooperate with security forces while the operation continues. Local authorities have also increased security checkpoints on major access routes to ensure civilians are kept away from potential danger.
This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by terrorist organizations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the years, security forces in the region have conducted multiple operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and preventing attacks on civilians and military personnel.
The Army has expressed condolences to the family of the fallen soldier and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the region. “Our forces remain fully engaged and committed to neutralizing all threats to peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir,” an Army spokesperson said.
As the situation continues to develop, updates from security agencies are awaited regarding the outcome of the ongoing encounter and the fate of the trapped militants.
