Labour Ministry Signs MoU with Zepto to Boost Employment Opportunities

New Delhi: In a significant step aimed at enhancing job opportunities and youth employability, the Ministry of Labour & Employment on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with quick commerce company Zepto. The agreement was formalized in the presence of Union Minister for Labour & Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, highlighting the government’s commitment to creating structured employment avenues for the country’s youth.

The MoU is part of a broader initiative to leverage the National Career Service (NCS) portal, which acts as a one-stop platform for job matching, career counselling, skilling opportunities, and employment facilitation. By partnering with Zepto, the Ministry aims to ensure that young job seekers, women, and first-time entrants into the workforce have access to predictable and structured urban employment opportunities.

Under this collaboration, Zepto will provide 10,000 job postings during the MoU’s tenure. This initiative is expected to create a stable pipeline of employment for urban youth while promoting formalization of work and ensuring that employees are covered under social security benefits. By bringing such opportunities onto the NCS platform, the partnership aims to streamline recruitment and make it easier for candidates to find suitable, secure employment.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Vandana Gurnani, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, emphasized the importance of this partnership. She noted that the MoU would provide a “further impetus to enhancing formalization and social security coverage,” underscoring the government’s focus on structured and sustainable employment solutions.

She highlighted the role of the National Career Service as a comprehensive portal capable of not only connecting job seekers to opportunities, but also offering guidance on career development, skill enhancement, and long-term employability. Ms. Gurnani remarked, “This partnership will pave the way for generating secure, long-term, and quality employment, particularly for those entering the workforce for the first time. It ensures that young people have access to not only jobs but also the support needed to grow in their careers.”

The collaboration with Zepto also reflects the Ministry’s efforts to engage with private sector companies in a way that benefits both the industry and the workforce. By linking fast-growing commerce platforms with the NCS portal, the government seeks to bridge gaps between demand and supply in the job market while simultaneously promoting formal employment standards.

For Zepto, the agreement represents an opportunity to expand its workforce efficiently while adhering to formal employment practices and providing secure, structured career paths for employees. For job seekers, it opens doors to urban employment opportunities backed by the credibility and support of the government’s employment services platform.

Overall, this MoU marks a significant step forward in the government’s ongoing effort to enhance employability, support youth employment, and strengthen the formal sector, ensuring that career growth goes hand-in-hand with social security and long-term stability.
