Heavy Rain Disrupts Hyderabad: Flights Diverted, IT Firms Urged to Adopt Work-from-Home

Hyderabad, Sept. 26, 2025: Persistent heavy rain has disrupted normal life in Hyderabad and its outskirts on Friday, affecting both air travel and road traffic. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad reported that three flights had to be diverted due to poor weather conditions.

According to airport officials, IndiGo flights from Kolkata (6E 6623), Mumbai (6E 6148), and Pune (6E 352) were rerouted to Vijayawada, causing inconvenience to travelers. Passengers were advised to check with airlines for updated schedules and alternative travel arrangements.

Meanwhile, Cyberabad Traffic Police issued an advisory urging Information Technology (IT) companies to consider Work from Home (WFH) for employees. This step is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, ensuring safety, and maintaining productivity amid ongoing heavy rainfall. A Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) emphasized:

Traffic movement in major IT hubs like Madhapur and Gachibowli has been slow since early morning. Traffic staff were deployed at key points such as Masjid Banda to regulate the flow and ease congestion. Commuters were advised to plan their travel carefully, exercise patience, and cooperate with traffic authorities. Heavy traffic was reported at Kondapur from Hafeezpet, slowing the morning commute further.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) has issued an orange alert for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, predicting 50-85 mm of rainfall over the next 24 hours. Citizens have been advised to avoid low-lying and waterlogged areas, stay away from open manholes or catch pits, and maintain a safe distance from electric poles or wires near waterlogged zones.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has alerted Collectors of all districts to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as a low-pressure area continues to impact the region. Local authorities are coordinating closely to manage traffic, prevent accidents, and respond promptly to emergencies.

Residents are urged to stay updated with weather alerts, avoid unnecessary travel, and exercise caution while navigating flooded streets. Businesses, commuters, and emergency services are all adjusting to the challenging conditions, emphasizing both safety and preparedness as Hyderabad faces another day of heavy rainfall.
