Hyderabad: Tension Erupts as HYDRAA Demolition Drive Targets Encroached Land
Hyderabad: Tension gripped Kondapur, near Hyderabad’s Hitech City, on Saturday, October 4, as the HYDRAA carried out a demolition drive on government land allegedly encroached upon with temporary structures.
The operation took place at survey number 59, Kondapur, where HYDRAA teams arrived early in the day to begin dismantling the sheds. The land in question is estimated to be worth a staggering Rs. 3,600 crores, making it a high-profile target for regulatory authorities.
Local residents and shopkeepers expressed frustration and anger, claiming they had been living and running businesses at the site for several years. Many said the land had become a part of their livelihood and that the demolition drive was abrupt and distressing. “We have been here for years, and this is where we earn our living,” said one shopkeeper, highlighting the human impact of the operation.
Security measures were tight, with police barricades set up on roads leading to the site, including the area near the Kondapur RTA office, to prevent any escalation and ensure the demolition proceeded smoothly.
While authorities insisted the operation was necessary to reclaim government land, the day was marked by tension, with local residents voicing their grievances and law enforcement maintaining a strong presence to manage the situation.
As the drive continues, authorities and residents remain at odds, reflecting the ongoing struggle between urban development, property regulation, and the livelihoods of those who have long occupied the area.
