UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer Arrives in Mumbai Ahead of Modi Meeting

Mumbai: United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday, setting the stage for a high-level meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India’s financial capital. Starmer, traveling from London with a delegation of business leaders, was warmly received at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and the state Governor Acharya Devvrat.

The two leaders are scheduled to meet on Thursday as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the India–UK strategic partnership. Their engagements in Mumbai will include attending the CEO Forum and the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest, providing a platform for dialogue between government leaders, industry experts, and innovators.

During the meeting, Modi and Starmer are expected to review progress across multiple pillars of the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, in line with the Vision 2035 roadmap. Key areas of focus include trade and investment, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate and energy, health, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

The discussions will also highlight opportunities arising from the recently signed India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which forms a central element of the future economic partnership between the two countries. Both leaders are expected to engage with CEOs, business executives, and policymakers to explore ways to leverage the agreement for enhanced trade, investment, and innovation collaboration.

In addition to economic and trade matters, Modi and Starmer will exchange views on issues of regional and global significance, encompassing geopolitical stability, climate action, and technological cooperation. The UK delegation will have the chance to interact with Indian industry leaders and innovators, creating avenues for partnerships in emerging sectors such as fintech, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure.

Starmer’s visit underscores the UK’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with India across multiple dimensions — from business and trade to innovation and climate action. For India, the engagement offers an opportunity to deepen cooperation with a key global partner and attract investment while advancing shared strategic priorities in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

The Mumbai visit marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to bolster the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reinforcing the countries’ long-term vision for economic collaboration, technological innovation, and people-to-people connections.
