Enrique Iglesias clicks selfie, tosses fan’s phone back
Enrique Iglesias rocked Mumbai’s MMRDA Grounds, marking his first India concert in 13 years.
Mumbai: Pop icon Enrique Iglesias made a triumphant return to India after more than 13 years, sending fans into a frenzy with a spectacular live concert at Mumbai’s MMRDA Grounds on Thursday night. The Grammy-winning singer, known for timeless hits like Hero, Bailando, and Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You), performed before a roaring crowd of over 25,000 fans who danced, sang, and cheered throughout his electrifying set.
The long-awaited concert marked Enrique’s third visit to India — and his first since 2012 — and fans made sure the global superstar felt their love. From the moment he stepped onto the stage, the energy was unmatched. The Latino heartthrob opened with his high-tempo number Escape, followed by a seamless mix of old favorites and newer tracks, keeping the crowd on their feet for the entire night.
But amid all the music, one particularly fun and spontaneous moment stole the show — and later, the internet. While Enrique was performing on a ramp that extended into the crowd, a fan tossed their phone onto the stage in a bid to get a personal selfie from the star himself. Without missing a beat, the 50-year-old singer caught the phone mid-air — all while still holding his microphone — and smiled at the cheering audience.
In true Enrique style, he raised the phone, snapped a selfie, flashing his signature peace sign, and then scanned the crowd with a grin before tossing the phone right back to its owner. Fans erupted into laughter and applause as the moment became one of the highlights of the night.
That light-hearted exchange sparked a wave of enthusiasm among the audience. Several more fans tried their luck by throwing their phones toward the stage, hoping for the same magical moment — but none quite made it. Enrique and his team were later seen carefully handing back the phones that landed near the stage, ensuring everyone got their devices safely returned.
Social media soon buzzed with clips of the moment, with fans sharing videos captioned, “Enrique caught my phone!” and “The luckiest fan in India tonight!” The impromptu selfie episode added a memorable touch to an already unforgettable evening.
The sold-out event, organized by BookMyShow Live, was attended by a host of Bollywood celebrities, including Malaika Arora, Vidya Balan, Rakul Preet Singh, Jackie Bhagnani, Rubina Dilaik, Anu Malik, and Abhinav Shukla, all spotted enjoying the concert from the VIP section.
Enrique’s powerful stage presence and easy charm captivated the audience from start to finish. Between songs, he interacted warmly with fans, waving, blowing kisses, and even pausing to thank the crowd for their decades of love and loyalty. “It’s been too long, India! You guys have always given me so much love,” he said to thunderous applause.
The Mumbai concert was just the beginning of his India tour, with Enrique scheduled to perform again at the same venue on Friday night, where an even larger crowd is expected. Organizers revealed that tickets for the second show were nearly sold out within hours of release.
As the night ended with his classic hit Hero, fans swayed under the night sky, singing every word with him. Enrique’s return to India wasn’t just a concert — it was a celebration of music, nostalgia, and the timeless bond between the singer and his Indian fans.
