In a shocking act of violence, CPM leader and former state general secretary of the Farmers’ Association, Samineni Rama Rao, was brutally hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Khammam district on Friday morning, October 31. The chilling incident has sent waves of grief and outrage across Telangana’s political and farming communities.
According to police, the attack took place in Patharlapadu village under Chinthakani mandal at around 6 a.m., when Rama Rao stepped out for his regular morning walk. Eyewitnesses said that a group of men armed with sharp weapons ambushed him on a village road and attacked him mercilessly.
Police teams rushed to the area and cordoned off the site as forensic experts collected evidence. Senior officials, including Khammam Superintendent of Police, reached the scene to oversee the investigation. A large contingent of police personnel has been deployed in Patharlapadu to prevent any escalation of tension, as villagers and party supporters gathered in large numbers, demanding justice for their slain leader.
Rama Rao was a respected figure in Khammam’s political and agricultural circles. Expressing profound grief, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said he was deeply shocked by the killing. “This is a tragic and painful loss. There is no place for violent politics in Telangana,” he stated. Extending condolences to Rama Rao’s family, he assured that those responsible for the heinous act would be tracked down swiftly and punished as per the law.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemned the killing and demanded an immediate and thorough investigation. Party members across Telangana held protests, calling for stronger protection for activists and political workers. Many described Rama Rao as a leader who always stood by the farmers and fought tirelessly for their welfare.
Police sources revealed that preliminary investigations are exploring multiple angles — including personal enmity, political rivalry, and land disputes. Officials said CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and special teams have been formed to trace the attackers.
