Govinda health update: medical tests ongoing, reports awaited

A day after visiting veteran actor Dharmendra at Breach Candy Hospital, Govinda himself was admitted for medical evaluation.

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Govinda, 61, was admitted to CritiCare Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai, late on Monday night after he reportedly lost consciousness at his home. Doctors say he is currently undergoing a series of medical tests and is under close observation, with specialists — including a neurologist — monitoring his condition closely.

According to sources, the actor was rushed to the hospital around 1 a.m. after experiencing a sudden spell of dizziness and fainting. His manager, Shashi Sinha, told IANS that Govinda had been feeling unwell since the evening and complained of a severe headache, heaviness in the head, and dizziness. “He was admitted last night after feeling lightheaded and losing balance. The doctors have advised him to consult a neurologist, and several tests are being conducted. We are awaiting the reports,” Sinha said.

Doctors at CritiCare Hospital confirmed that Govinda is in a stable condition but will remain under observation until test results are reviewed. and the course of treatment.

The actor’s friend and legal advisor, Lalit Bindal, also confirmed the incident. He revealed that Govinda had initially consulted a doctor over the phone after feeling unwell. “He was given medication after a telephonic consultation, but his condition didn’t improve. Around 1 a.m., his family decided to take him to CritiCare Hospital as a precaution,” Bindal said.

Govinda’s family members, including his wife Sunita Ahuja, have been by his side since he was admitted. Hospital authorities have restricted visitors to ensure the actor gets adequate rest and recovers without stress.

Interestingly, the hospitalization came just a day after Govinda had visited veteran actor Dharmendra, who is also recovering at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. The two met briefly on Sunday, and sources close to the family said Govinda appeared “cheerful but slightly fatigued” during the visit.

This is the second time within a year that the Hero No. 1 actor has been hospitalized. In October 2024, he was admitted to the same hospital following a freak accident involving his licensed revolver. Govinda accidentally shot himself in the leg while placing the gun back in its cupboard. He sustained a wound below his knee and underwent a one-hour surgery in the ICU to remove the bullet safely.

At that time, the actor had made a full recovery after several days of rest and physiotherapy. The incident had drawn widespread concern from fans and colleagues across the film industry, with many sending prayers and good wishes for his recovery.

Govinda, known for his exceptional comic timing, dance skills, and larger-than-life screen presence, has been a beloved figure in Hindi cinema since the late 1980s. Over the years, he has delivered numerous blockbusters such as Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Saajan Chale Sasural, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Haseena Maan Jaayegi.

Despite stepping away from the big screen in recent years, Govinda continues to remain active through public appearances, social media engagements, and occasional performances. His last major film appearance was in Rangeela Raja (2019), and fans have long been waiting for his return to mainstream cinema.

News of his sudden hospitalization has triggered concern among fans and colleagues from the film industry. Actors, filmmakers, and well-wishers have taken to social media to wish the actor a speedy recovery. “Praying for your quick recovery, Chi Chi bhai,” wrote one of his co-stars, while others called him a “true entertainer” and expressed hope that he would be “back on his feet soon.”

Sources close to the actor say that Govinda had been keeping busy with personal commitments and travel plans. He was reportedly preparing to visit Kolkata for an event this week when his health suddenly deteriorated. “He had packed his bags and was set to travel. Just hours before the flight, he started feeling dizzy, which soon worsened,” a family friend said.

Doctors at CritiCare Hospital are said to be focusing on stabilizing his condition and identifying the reason behind his symptoms. Neurological tests, including brain scans, are underway, and the results are expected within the next 24 hours.

While his condition is stable, medical experts have advised complete rest and minimal stress until his reports are finalized. His family has requested privacy as they await further updates from doctors.

As of Wednesday morning, no official medical bulletin has been issued by the hospital. However, sources close to the family have assured that Govinda is responding well to treatment.

Fans gathered outside the hospital have been praying for his recovery, recalling fond memories of his movies and his trademark smile that once lit up Indian cinema.

For now, Govinda remains under medical observation, with doctors optimistic about his recovery. The industry, meanwhile, continues to send love and prayers to one of Bollywood’s most adored entertainers.
