The MCD bypolls also sparked a counting controversy, with AAP leaders claiming that BJP’s win in Ashok Vihar appeared suspicious after a recount, raising questions about the transparency of the process. The allegation added tension to an already heated election, reflecting the high stakes and intense rivalry between the two parties in Delhi’s local politics.

Following the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) bypolls, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal extended congratulations to his party candidates while also taking a sharp dig at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Although the BJP won 7 of the 12 seats, it lost two compared to its previous tally of 9, giving Kejriwal an opportunity to highlight AAP’s growing momentum. He pointed out that in just ten months since losing power, the party is steadily regaining public trust.

Their mandate that support for the AAP is continuously strengthening.”

Delhi is moving back towards positive politics and good work, and the citizens are showing their faith in governance that delivers.”

The party’s official X account also took a light-hearted jab at the BJP for losing two seats, posting a graphic highlighting the drop from nine seats to seven, signaling a subtle shift in voter sentiment.

The by-elections for 12 MCD wards were conducted on November 30, with results declared today. AAP managed to clinch Mundka, Dakshinpuri, and Naraina, while the BJP emerged victorious in Shalimar Bagh B, Dichaon Kalan, Greater Kailash, Dwarka-B, Ashok Vihar, Vinod Nagar, and Chandni Chowk.

However, the election process was not without controversy. In Ashok Vihar, vote counting sparked a debate over transparency. Former AAP MLA and Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that the Election Commission’s website initially showed the AAP candidate leading. Yet, after a recount, the BJP candidate was declared the winner. The shift in results raised questions among AAP leaders and supporters, highlighting lingering concerns over the counting process and election transparency.

Despite the BJP’s overall numerical advantage, the loss of two seats provided AAP with a political narrative of resurgence. Kejriwal and party leaders used the results to emphasize that public sentiment in Delhi is slowly tilting in their favor, especially as the city looks for governance focused on practical solutions and citizen-centric policies.

The bypolls underscore the ongoing tussle between AAP and BJP in Delhi, reflecting not only political rivalry but also the city’s evolving voter priorities. While BJP retains a majority in these wards, AAP’s performance, combined with the counting controversy, ensures that the conversation around Delhi’s local governance and electoral integrity remains very much alive.
