Ahmedabad, Noida schools get bomb threats ahead of Republic Day

After the alert, Ahmedabad’s crime branch, bomb squad and forensic teams swiftly moved in to investigate the threat.

Several schools across Ahmedabad were placed on high alert after receiving bomb threats via email just days ahead of Republic Day on January 26, officials said on Friday. The threats triggered swift action from local authorities, heightening security concerns at a sensitive time.

According to Ahmedabad’s crime branch, multiple schools received the threatening emails, prompting immediate deployment of the bomb squad and forensic teams. After the information was received, officials began a thorough investigation, which remains ongoing. Police said all necessary precautions were taken to ensure student and staff safety, while efforts continue to trace the source of the emails.

A crime branch official told news agency ANI that teams were carefully examining the messages and conducting security checks at affected locations. No suspicious objects were reported during initial searches, but authorities said they were treating the matter with utmost seriousness given the proximity to Republic Day celebrations.

Similar concerns surfaced in Noida, where at least one prominent school was forced to shut its doors for the day. Shiv Nadar School received a bomb threat via email on Friday morning, following which the school administration announced an immediate closure to allow security agencies to conduct a full sweep of the campus.

In a message sent to parents, the school’s principal said the decision was taken purely as a precautionary measure. Parents were informed that school buses were being sent back and were asked to collect their children from designated drop-off points, with bus staff providing real-time updates.

Another Noida school, Bal Bharati, was also placed on high alert. Pre-primary classes, including Nursery, LKG and UKG, were dismissed as a precaution. However, parents said no official reason was communicated for the alert. Due to staggered schedules, varied timings and different bus routes, students from Classes 1 to 12 remained inside the school premises, with no clear communication yet issued regarding their dismissal.

Authorities in both cities said investigations are ongoing and appealed for calm, stressing that all safety protocols are being followed to protect children and school staff.
