Missing woman found dead in Hussainsagar, suicide suspected
Hyderabad woke up to sad news on Monday after the body of a young woman was found in Hussainsagar lake. The woman had been missing from her home in Kukatpally since Sunday, police said.
The deceased was identified as T Vijaya Lakshmi, aged 26. She was working at an IT company in the city. Her family had filed a missing complaint after she did not return home and could not be reached on her phone.
Police said her body was spotted in the lake early Monday. Rescue teams were alerted, and the body was later retrieved. It was then handed over to her family members for last rites.
According to the police, initial findings suggest that Lakshmi may have died by suicide. Officers said there were no visible injury marks on the body, and no signs pointing to foul play at this stage.
During the inquiry, police spoke to family members and relatives. They learned that Lakshmi had been under mental stress for some time. Investigators said the pressure appeared to be linked to repeated rejection of her marriage proposals.
Police said Lakshmi had one strong condition regarding marriage. She wanted her mother to live with her after she got married. This condition, officers said, reportedly led to several proposals being cancelled.
Her mother has been suffering from health problems for years. Since childhood, Lakshmi had taken care of her. Her father passed away earlier, leaving the responsibility of the household largely on her shoulders.
Family members told police that Lakshmi was deeply attached to her mother. She often worried about what would happen to her after marriage. The thought of leaving her mother alone disturbed her greatly.
Over time, this fear and pressure may have pushed her into depression, police said. Officers believe that she felt trapped between her wish to marry and her duty toward her ailing mother.
On Sunday, Lakshmi left her house and did not return. Her phone was switched off, which raised alarm at home. After searching nearby areas and failing to find her, the family approached the police.
By Monday morning, the tragic discovery was made at Hussainsagar. Police suspect that Lakshmi may have jumped into the lake, unable to cope with her emotional pain.
The police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation. They said they are also checking CCTV footage from nearby areas and speaking to friends and colleagues to better understand her final hours.
Neighbours described Lakshmi as quiet and responsible. Some said she was known for her dedication to her work and her care for her mother. “She always put her family first,” one neighbour said.
The incident has left the local community shaken. Many have expressed sorrow over the loss of a young life and concern over the silent struggles faced by people dealing with emotional stress.
