Ishan Kishan’s Exclusion from the First ODI by Rohit Sharma Makes Venkatesh Prasad Fume
In place of Ishan Kishan, India captain Rohit Sharma revealed that Shubman Gill will open with him in the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
Ishan Kishan, who had struck a double century in his previous 50-over contest, was passed over in favour of Shubman Gill by India captain Rohit Sharma, who also revealed the name of his opening partner for the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
The preference has generated a lot of discussion on social media, and former India bowler Venkatesh Prasad is one of the players who couldn’t understand it. Prasad criticised the choice in a series of tweets and emphasised how India’s limited-overs cricket performance has been impacted by this incessant cutting and shifting.
In a press conference on the eve of the series opener, Rohit revealed that Gill would open with him in the Guwahati ODI. But Prasad was eager to voice his displeasure.
“Giving a chance to a man who got a double hundred in India’s most recent ODI and in a series in which India lost two games and the series would have been fair. Have as much time as you like for Gill, but there is no way you should let a guy go after scoring two tonnes. And if one is persuaded to play Gill, one can beat him at number three while allowing Ishan to keep wickets in place of KL Rahul “Prasad penned.
We’ve struggled at limited overs cricket for a reason, I believe. A guy who performs excellently and has an X factor is dropped while mediocrity is kept because of constant switching and chopping.
“Pant helped India win the series with a hundred-plus score in the last ODI in England. Was, however, removed from the ODI team based on T20 performance. On the other hand, KL Rahul has frequently struggled but still holds his position despite it, with the exception of a few innings. The primary parameter is not performance. In other tweets, he added, “Sad.
Rohit cited the necessity to give Gill a “fair run” as justification for choosing the former over Ishan.
“Gill and Kishan have both performed admirably as openers. However, considering everything that both have been through, I believe it is only fair that we give Gill an opportunity to have a fair run because in the most recent games Gill also received a lot of runs “At a news conference the day before the opening ODI, Rohit stated.
“I won’t steal anything from Ishan, I promise. For us, he has been wonderful. He achieved a double hundred, which is a fantastic accomplishment because I am aware of what it takes to do so. However, we must also give the guys who have performed really well in the past adequate chances in order to be honest and fair to them “As stated by Rohit.
“It’s disappointing that we won’t be able to use Ishan, but given how the last 8–9 months have gone for us and how the ODIs have played out, it is only right to give Gill the opportunity. He has performed remarkably in that role. Ishan will unquestionably be kept in the mix as we play a number of upcoming games, and we’ll monitor how things turn out for us “the captain of India said.
Gill would have to step up his game and perform well with Ishan on the bench because even one miscue may result in the southpaw taking Gill’s position.
