Amit Shah to Lead Hyderabad Liberation Day Celebrations
The three-day celebrations marking Hyderabad Liberation Day commenced at Rashtrapati Nilayam, Hyderabad, with the event being organized by the Centre. The festivities began on Friday and are open to the public, concluding on September 17. The occasion was inaugurated by Vice Chancellors Prof. B.J. Rao from the University of Hyderabad and Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan from the Maulana Azad National Urdu University.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in the city on Saturday evening amidst the ongoing meeting of the Congress Working Committee in Hyderabad. On Sunday morning, he will play a prominent role in the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations at the Parade Ground in Secunderabad.
The visit by Amit Shah carries historical significance as it commemorates Hyderabad Liberation Day, an event of great importance in India’s history. The day marks the liberation of the then Hyderabad State and its subsequent merger with the Indian Union on September 17, 1948. This monumental moment was achieved through Operation Polo, led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first home minister.
Operation Polo involved Indian armed forces taking action in September 1948, resulting in the Seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, accepting defeat. This historic event paved the way for Hyderabad’s integration into the Indian Union.
Amit Shah’s visit to the Parade Ground on Sunday is of particular significance as he will participate in the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations. The day’s events will commence with a guard of honor by contingents of central security forces and a march past by cultural troupes. Following this, Amit Shah will pay his respects by garlanding a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
This marks Amit Shah’s second consecutive year of participation in the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations. Last year, he addressed a meeting organized by Union Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy, who now serves as the state BJP president. This annual event holds immense importance for the BJP, symbolizing the party’s commitment to preserving India’s historical and cultural heritage.
While there has been speculation regarding meetings between Amit Shah and state party leaders or other prominent individuals from the city, party sources have stated that no such formal meetings have been scheduled. It is a common practice for Amit Shah to meet with notable personalities during his visits to various locations, although no specific names have been confirmed.
Amit Shah’s visit will commence on Saturday evening when he arrives in Hyderabad. He is expected to stay at the CRPF guest house in the city. On Sunday morning, he will proceed to the Parade Ground for the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations. After participating in the event, Amit Shah is scheduled to depart from the city in the afternoon.
Amit Shah’s presence at the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations carries significant historical and cultural importance. The event not only commemorates a pivotal moment in India’s history but also underscores the commitment of political leaders to honor and preserve the nation’s heritage. Amit Shah’s participation serves as a reminder of the enduring significance of Hyderabad Liberation Day and its role in shaping India’s diverse and vibrant tapestry of history.
