Ancient Temple Remains Unearthed During Excavation at Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya
Archaeological excavations at the Ram Janmabhoomi site in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, have yielded significant findings, including remnants of an ancient temple. These discoveries, which consist mainly of pillars and idols, shed light on the historical and cultural significance of the area.
Champat Rai, the General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra and also the international vice president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), shared this exciting news. He described the findings as “Remains of an ancient temple found during excavation at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi. It includes many statues and pillars.”
One of the images shared by Rai shows intricately carved idol fragments and massive stone pillars, providing a glimpse into the architectural grandeur of the ancient temple that once stood on this sacred ground.
The ongoing construction of the Ram Temple has been a symbol of faith and devotion for millions of Hindus across the world. The first floor of the temple, currently under construction, was recently showcased on the official Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra’s social media account. The images displayed the scaffolding and dedicated workers diligently working on the structure.
Notably, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the site in August to inspect the progress of the Ram Temple’s construction. During his visit, he offered prayers at the revered Ram Janamabhoomi, emphasizing the cultural and spiritual importance of the project.
This monumental undertaking began with the Bhoomi puja (ground-breaking ceremony) on August 5, 2020, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the construction process. The formation of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra was announced by PM Modi in February 2020, entrusting it with the responsibility of overseeing the temple’s construction.
The historical backdrop to this project dates back to November 9, 2019, when a landmark judgment by a five-judge Supreme Court bench led by then Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi resolved a long-standing dispute. The ruling favored Ram Lalla and mandated the transfer of the entire disputed land, spanning 2.7 acres, to a government-formed trust. This trust was tasked with supervising the construction of the magnificent Ram Temple at the contested site.
In essence, the recent discovery of ancient temple remains serves as a testament to the enduring cultural and spiritual significance of Ram Janmabhoomi. It underscores the historical continuity of faith and devotion associated with this sacred place, where the construction of the Ram Temple stands as a symbol of collective reverence and unity.
