The annual tradition of auctioning the Balapur Ganesh ‘laddu’ prasadam, fondly referred to as the ‘golden laddu,’ achieved a remarkable milestone this year. In a historic moment, the laddu fetched an astounding sum of Rs. 27 lakhs on Thursday, marking the highest bid in the past 29 years. This year’s auction is particularly significant as it commemorates the 30th anniversary of this cherished tradition.
Dasari Dayanand Reddy from Turkenjal emerged as the victorious bidder, securing the coveted ‘golden laddu’ prasadam. In the previous year’s auction, Vengeti Laxma Reddy of VLR Builders had acquired the laddu for a substantial sum of Rs. 24.60 lakhs. The tradition of auctioning the Balapur laddu has been a consistent and growing tradition since its inception in 1994. In its inaugural auction, the laddu was acquired by Kolam Mohan Reddy for a modest sum of Rs. 450. Over the years, this unique event has gained immense significance, attracting prominent figures from various walks of life, including businessmen, politicians, and affluent individuals. Winning the bid is believed to usher in prosperity for the fortunate bidder.
Remarkably, the tradition of laddu auctioning has persevered through the years, with one exception during the COVID-19 pandemic when lockdown restrictions forced its cancellation. In that exceptional year, the laddu was graciously gifted to Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao.

It symbolizes the rich cultural heritage and spiritual devotion of the region, capturing the essence of tradition, prosperity, and community participation.
