BJP-targeted Bengal bureaucrat officer left the governor’s office

The BJP has regularly attacked IAS officer Nandini Chakravorty. Her relocation was requested by the Raj Bhavan on Sunday.

As the first step towards creating a new team at the Raj Bhavan to handle his business, Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose transferred his Principal Secretary Nandini Chakravorty from the Raj Bhavan to the Tourism Department. The BJP has constantly targeted Ms. Chakravorty, an IAS officer. On Sunday, the Raj Bhavan divested her of her responsibilities and asked for her transfer.

The following was said in a Wednesday night order from the Home Department: “Smt. Nandini Chakravorty, IAS (WB: 1994), Principal Secretary to the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, has been appointed Principal Secretary, Tourism Department, by the Governor, effective immediately. This is being released in the public interest.”

The Governor’s friendly relationship with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, as well as his glowing support of her in speeches at St. Xavier University and the state assembly, has angered the BJP. The party claims that Ms. Chakravorty “led” the state government’s agenda in the Raj Bhavan and “misled” Mr. Chakravorty on a number of subjects.

The local BJP branch maintained calling for her dismissal. According to sources, the situation grew to the point that the governor felt obligated to remove her.

After meeting Mr. Bose on Saturday, state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar took this move from the Governor’s Mansion. According to sources, he asked the governor to fire the cop.

The BJP leader highlighted a number of points during the meeting, which the governor’s office noted, but this topic was not addressed in the news statement that followed.

The BJP wants the new governor to follow the example set by Jagdeep Dhankhar, his predecessor and the current Vice-President of India, who frequently clashed with the state administration over a number of issues.

The connection between the Raj Bhavan and the government has entirely deteriorated during his time in office. The governing Trinamool Congress charged Mr. Dhankhar with converting the Raj Bhavan into a BJP branch office.
