Congress slams Centre for silence on Iran bombing.

The recent United States attack on Iranian nuclear facilities has sparked serious concerns across the international community, raising fears of a wider regional conflict in the already volatile Middle East. The airstrikes, which targeted key components of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, have drawn swift and varied reactions from global powers, with several nations urging both the United States and Iran to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation. Analysts warn that continued military aggression could provoke retaliation from Iran, potentially igniting a chain reaction involving its regional allies and adversaries, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, and groups in Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria.

Countries such as China, Russia, France, and Germany have emphasized the importance of diplomacy and adherence to international law, voicing concern that the attack could undermine efforts to revive the Iran nuclear deal. The European Union and the United Nations have also issued statements urging dialogue over confrontation. Meanwhile, markets have responded with volatility, reflecting investor anxiety over oil supplies and geopolitical stability. As tensions rise, the global community watches closely, hoping that cooler heads will prevail and prevent the eruption of a broader war that could have far-reaching humanitarian and economic consequences.

New Delhi: The Congress party on Monday strongly criticised the Narendra Modi-led government for its silence on the recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and Israel’s escalating military actions. Describing US President Donald Trump’s decision to launch air attacks on Iran as making a “mockery” of his own calls for continued diplomatic engagement, the opposition party condemned both the strikes and the Modi government’s muted response.

In a sharp statement, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, reiterated the party’s call for immediate diplomacy and dialogue with Iran. “President Trump’s decision to unleash US air power on Iran makes a mockery of his own calls for the continuation of talks with Iran,” Ramesh said.

He stressed that the Indian government must show greater “moral courage” and not remain silent in the face of blatant aggression. “The Indian National Congress reiterates the absolute essentiality of immediate diplomacy and dialogue with Iran.

Ramesh also accused the Modi government of refusing to criticise or condemn not just the US bombing, but also Israel’s military operations, including targeted assassinations and sustained bombings. He said the government’s silence amounted to tacit approval of such aggressive actions.

The US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities has raised global alarm, with fears of a broader regional conflict looming large. Several international powers and organisations, including the European Union and the United Nations, have urged both sides to de-escalate and return to the path of negotiation and restraint.
