Delhi CM attacked at event, Gujarat man arrested.

Police identified the attacker as 41-year-old Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, a resident of Rajkot. Preliminary interrogation has revealed his identity, but his exact motives are still unclear. Authorities said he remains in custody and will undergo detailed questioning. Investigators are carefully probing the incident to uncover possible reasons behind the sudden assault on the Delhi Chief Minister.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta faced a shocking incident on Wednesday when she was attacked during a Jan Sunwai (public hearing) at her residence. Initial reports suggested that the Chief Minister had been slapped, but Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva dismissed those claims. He clarified that while she was indeed attacked by a man, the nature of the assault was misreported.

Police said that Sakariya was swiftly overpowered, arrested, and taken into custody for questioning. While preliminary interrogation has confirmed his identity, investigators are still trying to piece together what pushed him to commit the act.

Adding a layer of complexity, Rajkot police also questioned Sakariya’s mother, who appeared distressed and bewildered by her son’s actions. She told officials that she had no knowledge of his visit to the Chief Minister’s residence. had deeply disturbed him. Describing her son as mentally unstable, she portrayed him as an animal lover whose behavior often turned unpredictable.

“His mind is like that—he can hit anyone,” she said, her words reflecting both pain and helplessness. “He has even beaten me before. I had once left home for 15 days because of his violence. He does have mental issues but he never takes any medicine. At home too, he would beat everyone. His nature has just become like that.”

She further revealed that Rajesh comes from a family of rickshaw pullers and had previously travelled to Delhi alone on more than one occasion, seemingly without a clear purpose. Her testimony paints a picture of a man wrestling with inner turmoil, detached from reality, and unable to control his impulses.

Doctors have meanwhile confirmed that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is physically stable, though understandably shaken by the incident. She is said to be in shock but recovering well.

Calling her a “strong woman with a clear commitment to Delhi,” Sachdeva emphasized that she will not be deterred by the attack and will carry on with her Jan Sunwai sessions. For many, this resilience is a reminder of the risks public figures face and the courage it takes to stay connected with citizens despite them.

As investigations continue, police are focusing on confirming the accused’s mental health condition and establishing whether the attack was a spontaneous act of instability or rooted in deeper frustrations. For now, Delhi waits for answers, while its Chief Minister presses on with calm resolve.
