Delhi Police assesses its security for Rahul Gandhi after receiving criticism: How frequently did he violate security protocols?
K C Venugopal, the general secretary of the Congress, issued a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 28 accusing the police of security violations during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Delhi.
How many times was a youngster called near Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress? How many times did he move in front to speak with strangers during the Bharat Jodo Yatra last week in the national capital? Before asking all DCPs to submit their observations on security violations during the Delhi leg of the yatra, especially those by Gandhi and Congress party activists, the office of Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora provided these as some of the significant examples.
Rahul Gandhi is protected by the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) Z-plus level of security, and at public events, a D-circle is formed for him by the security unit. The D-circle is never open to visitors, according to security personnel. In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah dated December 28, Congress General Secretary (Organization) K C Venugopal accused the Delhi Police of failing “to maintain a perimeter around Gandhi” during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in the nation’s capital.
In the hours following the conclusion of the Delhi leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Saturday, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora contacted the special commissioners (law and order, southern and northern zones), special CP (security), two concerned joint commissioners of police (JCP), and their four deputy commissioners (DCP), as well as the team of special branch, to express his gratitude for how well the yatra had been handled.
According to a senior police official, the meeting, which took place in the DCP’s office in New Delhi and lasted about 45 minutes, was held to express gratitude to two additional officers for their discussions.
Before drafting their reply to the complaints made by the Congress about Rahul Gandhi’s security, the police chief’s office ordered all senior officers to give their thoughts on security infractions on Wednesday.
“They were specifically instructed to write based on their observations, particularly with regard to the infractions committed by the protected Rahul Gandhi, his office, his staff, and other party leaders. They were requested to list any transgressions that they believed jeopardised his security, an officer claimed.
His (the police chief’s) office also provided examples of infractions, such as contacting a nearby youngster or meeting some strangers after moving forward. All of the officers were instructed to talk about these incidents with their staff members and videography teams, as well as to submit a report of their observations to the Special CP (security) office, the officer continued. According to the officer, all cops were asked to share information regarding any security measures they had taken.
Kumar Gyanesh, a spokesman for the Delhi Police, failed to respond to the Congress’s accusation.
According to the arrangements we made, there were no omissions or problems, according to a top Delhi Police officer. Despite the crowding, we were able to get by for the duration of the Delhi yatra. The CRPF was in charge of Rahul and Sonia Gandhi’s protection. We don’t investigate it. The plans and execution of the traffic and security arrangements were flawless.
