Sources indicate that the ED may question him about financial transactions or brand endorsements related to the case. Further developments are expected following his appearance.

ED Summons Rana Daggubati, Other Celebrities in Betting Apps Probe; Appearance Set for August 11

The promotion of illegal online betting apps. The investigation is part of a larger crackdown on alleged money laundering activities linked to these platforms, many of which have roped in celebrities for endorsements.

Rana was earlier asked to appear on July 23, but he sought a deferment, citing prior commitments related to a film shoot. The ED agreed and rescheduled his hearing for next month.

The investigation, which has been intensifying over the past few weeks, stems from multiple FIRs filed by the Telangana police, flagging potential violations involving 29 public personalities—including film stars, social media influencers, and people associated with various online betting platforms.

According to ED sources, celebrities such as Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, Lakshmi Manchu, Nidhi Agarwal, and others are under scrutiny for their associations with platforms like Junglee Rummy, A23, JeetWin, and Lotus365—apps that have been allegedly involved in illegal betting and financial misconduct involving transactions worth several crores of rupees.

The ED is expected to record detailed statements from each of them, including examining financial records, contracts, digital activities, and payment trails associated with their endorsements.

Sources close to some of the celebrities have suggested that the endorsements were made in good faith, believing the apps were strictly skill-based gaming platforms, which are legal under Indian law. Others claim they severed ties with the platforms once ethical or legal concerns emerged.

The investigation underscores the rising scrutiny on celebrity involvement in promoting online apps, especially in cases where financial legality is murky. While no formal charges have been filed yet, the ED’s questioning is expected to reveal key insights into the celebrity-brand nexus around online gaming and its impact on public trust and financial transparency.
