Hyderabad: Expelled All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig has rejected allegations against him and said he has no intention of resigning from his Telangana Legislative Council post despite being removed from the party.
In his first public remarks after the expulsion, Baig maintained that he had committed no wrongdoing and described the allegations circulating against him as “untrue”.
The controversy intensified after claims appeared on social media alleging that Baig had sexually assaulted a minor girl. Baig strongly denied the allegations and alleged that deepfake videos were being created and circulated to damage his reputation.

Baig said the allegations against him were completely false and insisted that he had done nothing wrong. He alleged that digitally manipulated videos were being used to target him and harm his personal and political reputation.
The AIMIM leader also expressed hope that party chief Asaduddin Owaisi would ensure justice in the matter. Despite his expulsion, Baig said he wanted to continue working as a party worker.
Baig also clarified reports surrounding his absence, saying he had not gone into hiding. He said he was away on an Umrah pilgrimage and returned to Hyderabad on Saturday, August 29.
The controversy has now developed into a political issue in Telangana, with opposition parties demanding a detailed investigation into the allegations.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have called for a comprehensive probe. BJP state chief spokesperson NV Subash said AIMIM’s decision to expel Baig on grounds of “indiscipline” was not sufficient and should not prevent an independent investigation into the allegations.
Subash urged the Telangana government to establish the facts and make the findings public. He also called for the investigation to remain free from political influence.
The allegations, however, remain unproven, and the claims circulating on social media have not by themselves established that any offence occurred. A proper investigation and verification of digital material would be necessary to determine the facts.
The political controversy escalated on August 29 when AIMIM announced Baig’s expulsion from the party with immediate effect.
In a brief statement, AIMIM joint secretary SA Hussain Anwar said Baig had been removed from the party and directed to immediately resign from the Telangana Legislative Council.
The party statement did not explain the specific reason behind the disciplinary action.
Baig has now made it clear that he does not intend to resign from his Legislative Council position. This puts his political future in a more complicated position following his expulsion from the party.
The expulsion came shortly after reports that Baig had approached the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police, alleging that unidentified people were threatening and blackmailing him.
According to reports, the alleged callers claimed they would release deepfake and morphed photographs and videos involving Baig unless he paid them money.
Baig’s complaint and the subsequent AIMIM action have therefore created two parallel developments: a cybercrime complaint involving alleged blackmail and a political decision to remove him from the party.
For now, the key questions are whether the alleged digital material is genuine or manipulated, who created or circulated it, and what prompted AIMIM to take disciplinary action against Baig.
