According to a report by India Today, six sticks of gelatin—a powerful but affordable explosive typically used in mining and construction—were recovered from a plastic bag near the public restrooms of the Kalasipalya bus terminal. Wrapped separately in the same bag were detonators, a necessary component to activate the explosives.
The bag was first noticed by staff working at the public toilets. One employee, who wished to remain unnamed, recounted how a man had entered the facility, left the bag behind, and never returned. “At first, we thought it was just another case of someone forgetting their belongings. We even kept the bag with us for a while, hoping someone would come back for it,” the worker said. “But when no one did, and we noticed it felt oddly heavy, we alerted the security team.”
That decision turned out to be a critical one. Upon inspection, the security personnel realized the suspicious nature of the contents and immediately called in senior police officials and the bomb disposal squad. The area was quickly cordoned off, and a controlled operation was launched to assess and secure the potential threat.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Laxman B. “While no FIR has been registered yet, we are treating this with the utmost seriousness,” he told the media. “Our teams, along with the Anti-Terrorist Squad, are combing through the entire area. We are reviewing CCTV footage from multiple angles and have increased deployment at all major transit points in the city.”
The DCP emphasized that although there is no indication yet of a larger coordinated plan, authorities are not taking any chances. The recovered explosives have been sent for forensic examination, and police are trying to identify the person who left the bag using surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts.
Explosives like gelatin sticks are often used in the mining and construction industries due to their low cost and ease of availability.
