Muzaffarnagar: A tragic house collapse triggered by relentless rainfall claimed the lives of five members of a family, including four young children, in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district on Sunday. The heartbreaking incident unfolded in Habibpur village under the Fugana police station area, leaving the local community in shock and grief.
According to officials, the family was inside their home having a meal when the structure suddenly gave way after hours of continuous rain. The weakened house could not withstand the impact of the downpour and collapsed without warning, trapping the family members under the debris.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Satyendra Kumar said the collapse was caused by incessant rainfall that had battered the area. Rescue efforts were launched immediately after neighbours heard the loud crash and rushed to the scene. Local residents joined police and emergency personnel in removing debris in a desperate attempt to save those trapped inside.
Sadly, five people lost their lives in the accident. The victims have been identified as Zeeshan (2), Ahad (5), Alshifa (7), Rukhsar (11), and Islam (75). The deaths of four children from the same family have left the village mourning an unimaginable loss.
Officials said the bodies were recovered from the rubble and later sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities have begun the necessary legal procedures while also assessing the circumstances that led to the collapse.
