Hyderabad: Authorities Investigating Assault on 17-Year-Old Girl by Rapido Driver and Accomplice
In a distressing incident in Hyderabad, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by two men, including a Rapido auto driver. The incident occurred on September 22 when the victim, a student, booked a Rapido ride from Banjara Hills to her home in Secunderabad.
Upon arriving at her pickup location, the Rapido driver instructed her to switch to another auto. However, during the ride, the driver made a phone call and picked up another individual at the Begumpet Flyover, raising the girl’s concerns. Despite her repeated pleas for the driver to stop, he continued in the wrong direction, eventually taking them to an isolated area.
Once there, both men moved to the passenger seat where the girl was sitting. They restrained her by gagging her mouth and began to misbehave with her. Fortunately, before the situation worsened, a group of passersby approached the scene. The men, alarmed by their presence, fled, leaving the girl behind.
Shaken but able to collect herself, the girl managed to find another auto and make her way home. However, she chose not to inform her parents immediately due to the trauma of the experience. It wasn’t until several days later, on Friday, that she and her family visited the Begumpet police station to file a formal complaint.
The police have since registered a case under Sections 87 and 74 of the BNS Act (Bansodda Nirbhaya Security Act), as well as Section 7 read with Section 8.
