According to a recent forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Biparjoy is predicted to move towards the north and strengthen into a very severe cyclonic storm during the following 24 hours. The IMD said that it will travel north-north-westward during the course of the following three days. 

In the same location, strong winds may gust up to 115 kmph and reach speeds of 95-105 kmph. The areas of north Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa would be most affected by these weather conditions. 

On June 8, east central Arabian Sea and surrounding parts of west central and south Arabian Sea are anticipated to see gale winds with speeds of 130-140 kmph with gusts up to 155 kmph. From nighttime across the same area, gale winds are also expected to pick up pace to 135-145 kmph with gusts up to 160 kmph areas bordering the beaches of Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka

Additionally, the IMD has issued a wind advisory for many regions of India.

The cyclone will probably make landfall in Pakistan in the meanwhile. As of 8:30 am on June 6, according to the Met Department’s advisory, the depression was located around 1,490 kilometres south of Karachi. 

Every time a cyclone develops, it usually has an impact on the start of the monsoon. This might delay things by one to two days, according to a PTI official quote. 

Sunil Kamble, the director of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Mumbai, stated that when the cyclone intensifies, it is expected to turn north, and at that point, we will be able to see the effects it may have on our shore.

Due to the storm that is coming, IMD has issued a wind warning for the southwestern states for the following five days.

7th June: East-central Arabian Sea and surrounding parts of west-central & southeast Arabian Sea are anticipated to see gale winds that can reach speeds of 80-90 kmph with gusts to 100 kmph. As of the evening of June 7th, it can increase in strength to 95-105 kmph with gusts to 115 kmph over the same area. Strong winds and severe sea conditions will also be present in neighbouring regions of the west central and south Arabian Sea, as well as along and off the beaches of north Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa.

8th June: Wind gusts of up to 140 kmph are possible starting in the evening. Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra coast regions are subject to high winds.

9th June: Beginning in the late afternoon, the wind may pick up to 135 to 145 kph with gusts up to 160 kph. South Arabian Sea bordering regions, Karnataka, Goa-Maharashtra beaches are subject to severe weather and choppy seas.

10th June: the central Arabian Sea may have gale winds with speeds of 145–155 kmph and gusts as high as 170 kmph. Additionally, adjacent regions of the south Arabian Sea and the northern Karnataka-Goa-Maharashtra beaches will continue to be impacted.

IMD has advised fisherman not to go out on the water until June 10. It is suggested that seafarers get back to land. The instructions given are as follows:

Between June 7 and June 9, fishermen shouldn’t go into the centre and surrounding areas of the southern Arabian Sea.

On June 10, the centre and surrounding regions of the north and south Arabian Sea.

Along and off the shores of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep on June 6 and 7, and on the Konkan, Goa, and Maharashtra beaches from June 8 to 10.
