INDIA BAGGED 4 GLOD IN THE BOXING CHAMPION SHIP 2023
India’s fabulous four women boxers earned us 4 gold medals with their amazing talent in the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships 2023.
The 13th edition of IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship 2023 was held in New Delhi starting from 15 March through 26 March 2023 at the K. D. Jadhav Indoor Hall.
A total of 324 ambitious women came representing 65 nations respectively and for 10days a mini battle took place for every place in the winner board which all together account to $2.4 million.
Out of the $2.4 million of total prize money – a gold medallist would bag $1000000, a silver medallist would earn $50000 and a bronze medallist would be earning $25000.
India, being the host nation – not only made the event a grand success but also stole the show by winning 4gold medals in the Championship under different weights.
India won gold in minimum weight, light flyweight, middle weight and light heavyweight categories.
Many countries like Canada, Argentina, Finland, Denmark,– etc boycotted this championship as this has Russian competitors. But still 65 nations signed to participate among which we have India, Singapore, Russia, China – and many.
The matches went through some ups and downs and also faced some controversies this year but finally concluded with India’s Victory.
With 4 gold medals i.e. the highest of all, India is awarded the Best Team of The Tournament.
- Lovlina Borgohain – gold under middle weight category. Won the finals against Caitlin Parker.
- Nitu Ghanghas – gold under minimum weight category. Won against Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg.
- Nikhat Zareen – gold medal light flyweight category against Nguyen Thi Tam.
- Saweety Boora – gold medal light heavyweight category against Wang Lina.
These four Indian boxers set India on the top of the score board making every Indian proud.
Lovlina Borgohain
Indian Olympic bronze medallist, Arjuna awardee, first athlete from Assam and many other names are all under Borgohain. She also has her hands on Khel Ratna Award, so many other rewards from Indian government and state governments.
Nitu Ghanghas
The youngster is very well known for the unique style in boxing that combines power and technique. Ghanghas was born in Haryana and brought so much fame to the country. Nitu in her career set many records but winning 4 gold medals.
Nikhat Zareen
This 26 years old Indian boxer and Arjuna Awardee popularly known as Nikki among her fans is a gem in the sport of boxing. Nikki is from Telangana and is appointed as the official ambassador of her home town Nizamabad.
Saweety Boora
Saweety Boora, 30 year old boxer from Haryana has set standards in the boxing ring by winning many medals for the country. Saweety represented India in many World Championships and won Gold and silver medals respectively.
