India defeats Bangladesh by 188 runs in the first test.
Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel finished Bangladesh’s second innings to help India win the first test by 188 runs. India will now attempt to win the series in Dhaka.
India defeated Bangladesh by 188 runs in the first IND vs BAN test at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. India scored 404 runs after electing to bat first. Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, and Ravichandran Ashwin all hit fifty for India.
Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraj each took four wickets for the home team. In response, Bangladesh was bowled out for 150 runs in their first innings. Mishfiqur Rahim led the Bangladeshi team in scoring. Kuldeep Yadav took five wickets for the Indian team, while Mohammed Siraj took three.
India amassed a massive 254-run lead in the first innings but chose not to enforce the follow-on. In the second innings, Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara both scored centuries for India. India declared after reaching 258-2 and set Bangladesh a mammoth target of 513 runs.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan of Bangladesh got off to a flying start. Shanto got a half-century, and Zakir got his first century. However, after Umesh removed Shanto, India seized complete control of the game. Shakib Al Hasan’s counter-attacking 84 brought Bangladesh’s second innings total to 324 runs. For the Indian team, Axar Patel took four wickets and Kuldeep Yadav took three. With this victory, India now leads the series 1-0. India is also still in contention for a spot in the World Test Championship final. Kuldeep Yadav has been named the match’s MVP.
