Indian Shooting Trio Clinches Gold at Asian Games 2023 Women’s 25m Pistol Team Event
In a stunning display of marksmanship, India’s trio of sharpshooters, Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rhythm Sangwan, secured the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol team event at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou. The Asian Games 2023 took place on a Wednesday, marking another triumph for India in the world of shooting.
India’s shooting stars accumulated a total of 1759 points, a score that proved sufficient to clinch the coveted gold medal. China managed to secure the silver medal, trailing closely with 1756 points, while South Korea secured the bronze medal with a respectable total of 1742 points.
Manu Bhaker led the charge for the Indian team, delivering a phenomenal performance in the rapid series. Notably, Manu Bhaker also finished at the top of the qualification standings in the women’s 25m pistol individual event, scoring an impressive 590 points. Esha Singh contributed significantly, finishing 5th with 586 points, and Rhythm Sangwan secured the 7th position with a score of 583 points. Together, their combined scores outshone the competition, edging out China by a narrow margin of 3 points in Asian Games 2023.
This victory at Asian Games 2023 marked a significant achievement for India as it was the seventh shooting medal and fourth gold medal overall in the Asian Games 2023. The Indian contingent had earlier celebrated world-record-breaking success when the team of Divyansh Singh Panwar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar clinched gold in the men’s 10-meter air rifle team event. Additionally, in the women’s 10m air rifle team event, the trio of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey secured a silver medal.
Ramita Jindal also demonstrated her prowess by securing a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle individual event. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, a prominent member of the Indian shooting squad, had also contributed to India’s medal haul with a bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle individual event. The men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol team, consisting of Adarsh Singh, Vijayveer Sidhu, and Anish Bhanwala, also added to India’s medal tally with a bronze.
With this latest gold, India’s medal count at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou reached an impressive total of 16 medals. This tally included four gold medals, five silver medals, and seven bronze medals, showcasing the country’s dominance in the field of shooting.
The shooting events at the Asian Games Hangzhou 2023 are scheduled to continue until October 1st, featuring a total of 33 medal events across rifle, pistol, and shotgun categories at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre. Notable figures within the 33-member Indian shooting contingent include Olympian Manu Bhaker and former world champion Rudrankksh Patil.
