In a recent address at the 118th annual session of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah celebrated India’s remarkable achievements in various fields, which have revitalized the nation with newfound energy. The successes of the G20 Summit, the Chandrayaan-3 mission, the launch of the Aditya L-1 spacecraft to study the sun, and the passage of the women’s reservation bill in Parliament have all contributed to this renewed sense of momentum and purpose.
Amit Shah highlighted that over the past nine years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has experienced a transformation characterized by decisive policies, political stability, a thriving democracy, and effective teamwork. This remarkable progress comes in stark contrast to the “policy paralysis” that the country endured from 2004 to 2014.
Speaking at the annual session with the theme “Rising India: Yahi Samay Hai, Sahi Samay Hai” (This is the Right Time), Amit Shah emphasized how these achievements have injected fresh energy into the nation. Amit Shah noted that India has completed 75 years of its journey as an independent nation, achieving significant milestones across various sectors and proving its mettle on the international stage.
Amit Shah expressed a vision for India to lead in all sectors as the country approaches its centenary of independence. Amit Shah acknowledged India’s youth, with the largest number of engineers, doctors, and technocrats, and emphasized the presence of democracy, teamwork, and clear policy formulation under Modi’s leadership as essential drivers of India’s success.
The home minister highlighted the period between 2004 and 2014 as one marked by political instability and policy paralysis, but he described the subsequent nine years as a period of political stability and decisive policy making. During this time, India’s GDP grew from $2.03 trillion to $3.75 trillion, nearly doubling its economic output. Per capita income also saw a significant rise, increasing from ₹68,000 in 2013-14 to ₹1.80 lakh.
Amit Shah attributed this economic growth and newfound global recognition to the policies implemented under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. India’s burgeoning economy has garnered attention worldwide, and the country has become an attractive destination for production and investment, particularly through the “Make in India” program.
Amit Shah also lauded India’s digital transformation, sharing an anecdote about a diplomat in Jaipur who was astonished to witness a street vendor accepting digital payments through a PayTM code scanner. This transformation illustrates how India has rapidly embraced digital technology, making it accessible even to small businesses and street vendors.
With unwavering confidence, Amit Shah predicted that India would become the world’s third-largest economy by 2027, currently standing as the fifth-largest. Amit Shah pointed to the country’s impressive growth trajectory and highlighted its potential to continue thriving on the global stage.
