Kolkata Gangrape Case: Law Student Assaulted, Filmed, and Blackmailed on College Campus
Shocking and horrifying details have emerged in the alleged gangrape case of a 24-year-old student from South Calcutta Law College, who was reportedly assaulted on the college premises on June 25. The survivor, a law student, filed a complaint with the police alleging that she was brutally assaulted, filmed without consent, and later blackmailed with threats of the video being leaked online.
According to her statement, the main accused, Manojit Mishra, a staff member at the law college, along with two students — 19-year-old Zaib Ahmed and 20-year-old Pramit Mukherjee — sexually assaulted her. The survivor claimed that the three men not only violated her physically but also mentally tortured her by recording the assault and threatening to make the footage public if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Mishra also allegedly threatened to kill the survivor’s boyfriend, adding to her trauma.
The incident, reportedly taking place within the boundaries of an academic institution, has reignited fears and outrage across the city. The survivor’s account, as cited in multiple reports, includes deeply distressing details of the assault. She stated that she was hit with a hockey stick during the attack and was left severely injured. “He tried to force me with the intention of having sex. I told them I have a boyfriend and I love my boyfriend.
In her complaint, she revealed that she cried, pleaded, and even touched the feet of one of the accused in desperation, but they showed no mercy. The victim further alleged that while Zaib Ahmed was raping her, the other two – Mishra and Mukherjee – stood by and watched the incident unfold without intervening.
Incident,” a police source told PTI. The authorities have since confiscated the mobile phones of all three accused and sent them for forensic analysis to retrieve and verify any digital evidence related to the assault.
The police acted swiftly and arrested all three accused. They were produced before a local court and have been remanded to four days in police custody. Officials say they are probing the case thoroughly and will ensure no angle is left unexplored. A senior officer of the Kolkata Police also confirmed that the results of the medical examination conducted on the survivor have corroborated her claims of being gangraped.
This case has drawn comparisons to past incidents, notably the brutal rape and murder of an intern inside RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August last year. Student groups, activists, and citizens have voiced their anger and demanded stringent punishment for the perpetrators.
Authorities have promised a fair and transparent investigation and emphasized the importance of justice for the survivor. The college administration, meanwhile, has yet to issue a detailed public statement but is expected to take internal action once the police complete their preliminary probe.
As the investigation progresses, the focus remains on ensuring the survivor receives justice and that institutional safety is re-evaluated across campuses in Kolkata and beyond.
