A police constable attached to the LB Nagar police station in Hyderabad was found dead at the LB Nagar ACP office in the early hours of Wednesday, August 12, sending shockwaves through the local police community and raising urgent questions about the circumstances surrounding his death. The deceased was identified as J Sai Kumar (13128), a 2024-batch constable who had been posted to the ACP office for e-COPS duty.
What happened
Colleagues who discovered him immediately alerted senior officials and rushed him to Kamineni Hospital, where doctors examined him and declared him brought dead. The body was later shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and are trying to ascertain the reason behind the incident. No suicide note has been found so far, and officials have not yet established a clear motive.
Family protests and demands
They expressed anguish over the police allegedly not informing them before shifting the body to the hospital. They have also demanded that his mobile phone be handed over to the family. Police said further investigation was underway and that the exact circumstances leading to the constable’s death would be established during the probe.
A pattern of distress
This is the second such incident in the city in three weeks. On July 23, a head constable identified as Swamy allegedly shot himself with his service firearm at the Telangana Police Headquarters in Lakdikapul. He was suspected to have taken the extreme step due to family issues and reportedly wrote a suicide note before ending his life. In that case, investigators are probing whether mounting financial liabilities, gambling losses or other addictions contributed to his death.

For a young constable like Sai Kumar, barely two years into the force, the pressures can be overwhelming. Long hours, night duties, financial strain and the emotional toll of police work can pile up quickly, often without adequate support systems in place.
