FORECASTERS STATED THAT THERE ARE CHANCES OF A CYCLONE NAMED MOCHA FORMING OVER THE SOUTHEAST BAY OF BENGAL REGION
As an area of low pressure builds up in the region, Cyclone Mocha, the year’s first cyclone, is expected to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal this week. A cyclonic circulation is expected to begin around May 6, according to the IMD. Nevertheless, the cyclone’s formation has yet to be approved.
The Indian Meteorological Department issued its statement following the Global Forecast System, the US weather forecasting model, and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts anticipated the appearance of a hurricane-like storm over the Bay of Bengal.
The cyclonic storm, if it forms, is going to be termed ‘Cyclone Mocha’ pursuant to the WMO/ESCAP nomenclature system. Yemen offered the name, which has its roots in the Red Sea port city.
The vast majority of cyclones that formed in the vicinity in recent years, including Amphan in 2020, Asani in 2021, and Yaas in 2022, made landfall in May. While the IMD has not made any forecasts about Cyclone Mocha’s path, its impact on the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha cannot be ruled out. The Odisha administration has already begun measures to mitigate any damage caused by the storm.
According to Windy.com, a tropical storm is expected to pass over the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday next week. It will then gradually drift northward, closer to the Indian coast. A low-pressure system emerging over the southeast section of the Bay of Bengal may intensify into a cyclonic storm on May 9 near the Andaman Islands, according to the IMD-Global Forecast System (GFS).
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik assembled for a high-level meeting on Tuesday to evaluate readiness in light of the potential cyclone ‘Mocha,’ according to an India Today article. Because it is difficult to predict the path of cyclones formed during the summer, the Chief Minister asked the authorities to be ready to deal with any situation. He urged authorities and offices to be prepared for use and he stressed that the NDRF, ODRAF, and Fire Services staff members should also be armed.
The formation is not confirmed yet but it is better for people living in the coastal areas to be prepared for what is to come. It is advised that people stay in and not go out especially not to go anywhere near the sea.
This storm, if forms – will definitely have some effects on the weather of the neighboring states and places. Where do you live? Will that place be affected by the cyclone? Let us know in the comment section and stay updated with us at https://tvbharat24.com/.
