Modi: India Only Paused Action After Pakistan Ceasefire

NEW DELHI (AP)Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Monday that India has only “paused” its military action after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire with Pakistan and warned that the country would “retaliate on its own terms” if provoked again.

For the first time in nearly a week, there were no reports of gunfire between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

Modi, addressing the nation, stressed that India’s restraint should not be seen as weakness.

Modi made clear that if talks occur, they will focus solely on terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Senior military officials from both sides spoke via a hotline Monday to assess the truce.

Any infiltration or militant support could break the fragile peace.
