Modi-Trump Meeting Masks Growing Strategic Distance Between Allies

India’s concerns over US ties deepen since 2025 summit.

Welcome to the Thursday edition of India Edition. I’m Menaka Doshi, and every week I pull back the curtain on the people, policies and pockets that are reshaping India’s economic story. From boardrooms where billionaires decide the next big investment, to the corridors of power where policy choices ripple through markets and everyday life, I try to bring you the view from ringside — clear, curious and occasionally skeptical.

What drives me is a simple question: how do decisions made by a few translate into opportunities or frictions for millions? I follow the deals, the regulatory shifts, the corporate strategies and the policy debates because those forces often set the terms for jobs, prices, innovation and growth. But I’m just as interested in the smaller moments — the startups betting on new models, the family-run firms adapting to digital realities, and the regulators who are trying to balance growth with social priorities. Those stories together trace the contours of an economy in motion.

Expect a mix of profiles, analysis and on-the-ground reporting. I’ll write about big mergers and quiet pivots, the influence of capital flows and the changing calculus of risk for investors here and abroad. I’ll look at how policy nudges — tax tweaks, industrial incentives, or changes to market access — alter incentives for businesses and investors. And I’ll track how global trends, from supply-chain realignments to shifts in energy markets, intersect with India’s ambitions. My aim is to make intricate business and policy developments accessible without stripping away the nuance.

I also try to spotlight the human side of these changes. Who are the entrepreneurs solving hard problems? Which communities feel the strain when policies change? How do workers, consumers and small businesses respond when large corporations reimagine their strategies? Those perspectives matter, because numbers and headlines only tell part of the story.

If you enjoy data-driven analysis, I’ll bring charts and context to help show what the numbers mean. If you prefer narrative, I’ll share the stories behind the balance sheets. And if you have tips, corrections or leads — especially from places outside the usual business centers — I want to hear them. You can reach me at indiaedition@bloomberg.net. Hearing from readers helps me cover blind spots and surface stories that deserve wider attention.
