Namo Bharat trains connect Delhi, Meerut corridor
The Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor is seeing rapid progress, with construction advancing in several sections. Notably, work on the stretch between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan, as well as the segment from Meerut South to Modipuram, is progressing at an accelerated pace. These key sections are part of the larger RRTS project aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time between Delhi and Meerut.
Once completed, the RRTS will significantly enhance transportation options, providing commuters with a fast, efficient, and environmentally friendly mode of travel. The corridor is expected to cover around 82 kilometers and will feature high-speed trains, modern stations, and dedicated tracks, ensuring smooth operations and reduced congestion on the road network.
The RRTS corridor will also play a pivotal role in boosting regional economic integration, facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services across the National Capital Region (NCR). This ambitious project is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce carbon emissions, and improve overall travel experience.
As construction continues, authorities are hopeful that the project will meet its timeline, bringing the benefits of rapid transit to the Delhi-Meerut region sooner rather than later.
The 13-km section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) from Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi is now operational, marking a significant milestone in the development of the Namo Bharat Corridor. This section forms part of the larger RRTS project, which aims to improve connectivity between Delhi and Meerut, offering faster, more efficient transportation options for commuters.
The corridor is equipped with 11 stations, strategically located to serve major urban centers and residential areas along the route. The stations are designed to provide seamless connectivity for passengers, with modern amenities and high-speed trains designed to meet the growing demand for faster transit options in the National Capital Region (NCR).
This operational section of the RRTS corridor brings many benefits, including reduced travel times between Delhi and Meerut, better access to economic opportunities, and a greener alternative to road transport. With the Namo Bharat Corridor now extending over a significant distance, the system will alleviate traffic congestion and reduce pollution, making daily commutes more efficient and environmentally friendly.
The completion of this stretch is part of the ongoing efforts to extend the entire RRTS network, which will eventually cover around 82 kilometers and connect key cities across the NCR. Authorities are hopeful that the successful operation of this section will encourage greater use of public transit and drive the broader adoption of sustainable mobility solutions in the region.
