Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has called for an impartial investigation into the recent violence in Sambhal, which resulted in the deaths of three young men. He emphasized the need for justice and fairness in dealing with the violence, urging authorities to ensure that the guilty are held accountable.
Owaisi’s remarks come in the wake of clashes between protesters opposing a court-ordered survey of the Jama Masjid and security personnel, which led to several fatalities and injuries. The MP expressed concern over the rising tensions and stressed the importance of maintaining law and order in such sensitive situations.
He also condemned the loss of lives in the violence and highlighted the necessity for a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the killings. Owaisi’s call for justice reflects a broader concern over the escalation of communal tensions and the need for a fair and transparent inquiry into the events that unfolded in Sambhal.
that erupted over a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Owaisi condemned the actions of the Uttar Pradesh police and called for an impartial investigation into the incident. He also demanded strict action against those responsible for the deaths of the three men, naming them as Naeem, Bilal, and Nauman.
In his post, Owaisi questioned the toll of violence, writing in Hindi, “How many people’s blood do you need, O my countryman? Who can make your colourless earth bloom? How many sighs will cool your heart? His words echoed a deep sense of concern and sorrow over the escalating violence.
According to police reports, the protesters attempted to torch government vehicles and threw stones at law enforcement officers. In the ensuing chaos, gunshots were fired.
The roots of the unrest can be traced back to Tuesday when the court-ordered survey of the Mughal-era Jama Masjid was initiated following a petition claiming that a Harihar temple once stood at the same site. The controversy surrounding the mosque has intensified communal sensitivities, and the violence marked a peak in the unrest.
On Sunday, a second survey was conducted by an “Advocate Commissioner” as part of the ongoing examination of the disputed site. By 9:15 a.m., the situation escalated when protesters started pelting stones at police. District Magistrate Rajendra Pensia said that while the situation was initially under control, the violence intensified around 10 a.m. after the survey was completed, leading to more stone-pelting and the firing that resulted in the deaths of three individuals.
In total, 20 police officers were reported injured, with three killed, two of whom were shot with country-made pistols. Pensia confirmed that the situation is now under control but added that investigations are ongoing.
