On Friday night

Nepal experienced a seismic event registering a magnitude of 6.4, with its tremors reverberating across the northern parts of India, particularly in Bihar. The impact was palpable in Bihar’s major cities such as Patna, Katihar, and Motihari, extending to several districts along the Indo-Nepal border. 

The National Centre of Seismology, sharing information on the social media platform X, reported, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.4 occurred on 03-11-2023 at 23:32:54 IST, with the epicentre located at Lat: 28.84 & Long: 82.19, and a depth of 10 km.” As residents grapple with the aftermath, the seismic occurrence serves as a stark reminder of the interconnectedness of geological events across borders.

The National Centre for Seismology reported that the epicentre of the earthquake, which occurred around 11:30 pm, was situated in Nepal, approximately 227 km north of Ayodhya and 331 km west-northwest of Kathmandu.

The aftermath of the potent 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal late on Friday reveals a grim toll, with the death count soaring to 128, as reported by news agency Reuters. The Jajarkot and Rukum districts of Western Nepal witnessed over 140 people sustaining injuries, as disclosed by state-run Nepal Television. The epicentre of the seismic event was pinpointed to the Lamidanda area in Jajarkot, according to officials at the National Earthquake Measurement Centre, underscoring the severity of the impact on these regions.

Nepal’s Lamidanda area in the Jajarkot district experienced the impact of a 6.4 magnitude earthquake, causing tremors that reverberated across various northern Indian cities, including the Delhi-NCR region, around 11:30 pm. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km, with coordinates placing it at a latitude of 28.84 N and a longitude of 82.19 E. Strikingly, this marks the third occurrence of a significant earthquake hitting Nepal within the span of a month, emphasising the heightened seismic activity in the region.
