Priyanka Gandhi Blames UP Govt for Sambhal Violence, Calls for Peace

New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi, Congress leader and newly-elected Member of Parliament, has strongly criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for its mishandling of the recent violence in Sambhal district. The violence, which erupted after a court-ordered survey of the Jama Masjid, led to the deaths of four individuals, further escalating tensions in the region.

In a statement, Priyanka Gandhi held the Uttar Pradesh government directly responsible for the unrest. She accused the state administration of “spoiling the atmosphere” in the region by failing to address the situation impartially. Gandhi emphasized that if the government had acted with sensitivity and fairness, the violence could have been avoided. “The atmosphere has been spoiled by the UP government,” she said, expressing concern over the administration’s role in aggravating the already tense situation.

While condemning the violence, Gandhi also appealed to the people of Uttar Pradesh to maintain peace. She further called for accountability for the deaths, demanding a fair investigation into the incident.

The violence occurred amid a legal dispute over the Jama Masjid, which is at the center of a contentious issue about its history and claims that a Hindu temple once stood at the site. The survey, ordered by a local court, was part of an ongoing investigation into these claims.

Gandhi also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for inflaming religious tensions in the state. She warned that such actions were harmful to both the state and the nation, calling for unity and peaceful resolution of the issue.

As the investigation continues, authorities have imposed strict security measures, including prohibitory orders and internet shutdowns, while the community hopes for a peaceful resolution.
