Last Saturday, Pune Police arrested Surendra Agarwal, the grandfather of the teenager involved in the Porsche accident. Allegations surfaced that both the teenager’s father, Vishal Agarwal, and his grandfather coerced their family driver into taking the blame for the accident through monetary offers and threats.
Vishal Agarwal, already in judicial custody for another case related to the accident, was also named in the FIR. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed that the driver initially falsely claimed responsibility at the Yerawada police station but later admitted the teenager was driving.
After the driver’s initial statement, Vishal Agarwal and his grandfather allegedly transported him to their bungalow, confiscated his phone, and confined him there. They allegedly pressured him to maintain the false narrative and even offered gifts and cash.
The Agarwal family reportedly offered the driver any amount he requested. The driver’s wife eventually intervened, freeing him from confinement. Vishal Agarwal and his father face charges under IPC sections 365 and 368.
However, defense lawyer Prashant Patil contested the allegations, maintaining that the driver was present during the accident and was not wrongfully confined.
