Putin receives ceremonial welcome in Delhi, pays tribute at Rajghat, and meets PM Modi at Hyderabad House. Both leaders will later address a press conference before attending a dinner hosted by President Murmu.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who arrived in Delhi on Thursday evening, began a packed day with a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He then visited Rajghat to pay floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi before heading to Hyderabad House for a bilateral meeting with PM Modi. Later, the two leaders will address a joint press conference, and at 7 pm President Murmu will host an official dinner for the Russian leader. More updates are expected later today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the India–Russia Summit 2025, highlighted the long-standing depth and strategic value of India’s partnership with Russia. He noted that India’s role in 2001 demonstrated how visionary leadership can shape bilateral ties over decades, emphasizing that the relationship between the two nations remains among the strongest examples of sustained cooperation and mutual trust. According to PM Modi, the evolution of India–Russia relations reflects how leaders with foresight can guide nations through changing global dynamics while preserving core diplomatic understanding. “I believe that the role we played in 2001 is a perfect example of how a visionary leader thinks — where they begin and how far they can take relationships. India–Russia relations are the finest example of this,” he said, underscoring the steady progress achieved across defense, energy, space, and trade.

During bilateral talks at Hyderabad House, PM Modi reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to global peace while addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin. Referring to the ongoing Ukraine conflict, Modi emphasized that India “always supports peace” and stands firmly “on the side of peace.” He expressed confidence that Russia and Ukraine would eventually move toward dialogue and peaceful resolution. Modi acknowledged the regular communication between the two leaders since the start of the crisis, noting that Putin has kept India informed as “a true friend.” He stressed that trust and transparency in discussions form the foundation of effective diplomacy.

“The welfare of nations lies in the path of peace,” PM Modi said, adding that both India and Russia could play a constructive role in guiding the world toward stability. He expressed optimism that recent global efforts would help steer the international community back toward peace, reaffirming India’s readiness to contribute to these efforts through dialogue, cooperation, and long-term commitment to non-violence in international relations.
