Seven killed, including Indian expats, in Dubai crash.
Minibus hit stalled truck after roadside breakdown.
Dubai: Several Indian expatriates were among seven people killed and nine others injured in a tragic road accident on Dubai’s Emirates Road on Monday, June 8, according to authorities and officials from the Indian Consulate in Dubai.
The Indian Consulate in Dubai expressed deep sorrow over the incident and confirmed that Indian nationals were among those affected. In a statement posted on social media platform X, the Consulate conveyed condolences to the families of the victims and said consular officials were actively assisting those impacted by the tragedy.
According to the Consulate, officials visited injured Indian nationals in hospital and are working closely with local authorities to ensure that the victims and their families receive the necessary support. The mission also stated that it remains in contact with relevant agencies as investigations continue and arrangements are made for affected families.
Preliminary findings indicate that the accident occurred after a truck developed a technical fault and came to a stop on the roadway. A minibus travelling behind the truck later collided with the stationary vehicle, resulting in severe casualties and injuries.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, said initial investigations suggest that the minibus driver failed to maintain a sufficient safety distance from the vehicle ahead. Authorities believe this may have prevented the driver from reacting in time after encountering the stopped truck.
Traffic officials emphasized that maintaining safe following distances is one of the most important road safety requirements, particularly on high-speed highways. Adequate spacing between vehicles allows drivers additional time to respond to unexpected situations such as mechanical breakdowns, sudden stops or road hazards.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collision was reported. Rescue teams worked to assist victims trapped inside the damaged minibus and provide urgent medical attention to the injured. The injured passengers were then transported to hospitals for further treatment and evaluation.
Authorities reported that five of the injured sustained serious injuries, while four others suffered moderate injuries. Medical teams continue to monitor their conditions and provide necessary treatment. No further details regarding the identities or nationalities of all the victims have been officially released.
Specialists from Dubai Police’s Traffic Accident Investigation Section were deployed to conduct a detailed examination of the crash site. Investigators collected evidence, documented vehicle damage and reviewed circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the collision.
Police patrols also secured the area and managed traffic flow to prevent additional accidents and minimize congestion on the busy highway. Emergency personnel coordinated closely to ensure that rescue operations and investigative work could proceed safely and efficiently.
Road accidents involving passenger transport vehicles often draw heightened attention because of the number of people affected in a single incident. Authorities in the UAE regularly conduct awareness campaigns encouraging drivers to follow traffic regulations, avoid distractions and maintain safe distances from other vehicles.
The latest tragedy has once again highlighted the importance of road safety and vehicle maintenance on heavily used transport routes. Officials continue to investigate whether additional factors may have contributed to the accident, including road conditions, visibility and the circumstances surrounding the truck’s mechanical failure.
The Indian Consulate has assured affected families that it will continue to provide assistance and coordinate with local authorities throughout the investigation and recovery process. Meanwhile, condolences have poured in for the victims as relatives, friends and members of the Indian expatriate community mourn those who lost their lives in the devastating crash.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are expected to release further details once their inquiries are completed. Until then, police have urged motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations and prioritize safety while travelling on the UAE’s roads.
